El Güegüense is a traditional folk street theater of the local native american population of Nicaragua poking fun at the local Spanish administrators and governors during colonial times. It is described as the best representation of the local Nicaraguan mindset towards authority and government. El Güegüense is an old wise man who takes advantage at the ineptitude and corruptness of his colonial masters and makes fun of the old Spanish society that ruled Nicaragua during its colonial period.
